Influenced by artists such as Memphis Minnie, Maggie Sue Wimberly and Patsy Cline, Coral Lee has honed a unique blend of blues, jazz, rockabilly, country and swing in her evolution as a frontwoman.
Lee has worked with a dynamic and varied line-up of some of Australia’s and Germany’s finest musicians including Ben Franz (The Waifs), David Cantrell, Til (Snappy) Vex, Andrew Lindsay, Gregor Gast, Michael (Humpty) Kirscht and Axel Praefcke to name a few.
Known for her rockin’ performances; upbeat, infectious songs; and authentic ’40s/’50s and early '60s sound, Coral Lee has won the respect of her fellow musicians as well as the hearts of fans in Europe and Australia.
Born in Newcastle, Lee grew up with the sounds of Americana roots music throbbing like a steam train through her veins. She rode that sound south, all the way to Melbourne, where she found a home among its vibrant live music community.
Inspired by Australian bands such as Peter Baylor’s Roadhouse Romeos and Benny and the Fly-By Niters, Lee quickly found her feet, her direction, and a fantastic line-up of like-minded musicians who would help steer her swingin’ songs right into the heart of the country, rockabilly, blues and roots scene.
