Dashville is a secluded bushland venue and campground located at Belford in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
Dashville was established in 2004 by the Johnston family through the creation of the very popular, family orientated music and arts festival 'The Gum Ball.'
The ongoing growth and success of that festival has enabled the site to grow and evolve into a premium campground and unique variable venue option.
Over the last 16 years of operation, with continued festivals and events, the site has built a myriad of covered areas, quirky nooks and amenities to cater for any audience whether it be 20 people or 2700 people.
Dashville pride ourselves on creating a venue with flexibility, versatility and uniqueness, something that makes people want to choose it as a destination for their next night/weekend out.
Whilst the site is pretty flexible and there are few main venue options for consideration when looking to do a show at Dashville. Here's an overview of those spaces:
TRACTOR SHED (Intimate)
TYPE - Indoor, enclosed listening room. Soundproofed, perforated ceilings with large windows opening out to a verandah and general standing area. It's got a bit of a Juke joint vibe with timber floor, rustic panelled walls and exposed roof trusses.
ROOM SIZE - 12m x 6m with adjoining outdoor covered spaces.
CAPACITY - inside 60 seated, 80 standing. Add the adjoinging outside space and you've got 200.
NOTE: The Tractor Shed with its adjoining spaces also doubles as a great dry hire recording space for a band or artist looking to get away from the outside world, spread out and create in comfort.
THE PORCH (Medium Outdoors)
TYPE - Covered performance space, opening out to an outdoor audience area. As in the title, it's an open porch inspired by Willie Nelson's Luck Ranch, Texas. We use this stage for weddings as much as a performance stage. It's got some good sun in the morning and some fine shading in the afternoon. Oozes a folk/bluegrass vibe.
STAGE SIZE - approximately 8m x 6m.
CAPACITY - the surrounding outdoor space is pretty large, though we would suggest shows above 100 and less than 500 to achieve best results.
THE SWOOP INN (Dining/Restaurant Area)
TYPE - Open air indoor space, generally set up with tables and chairs for dining, as it adjoins our kitchen and cafe. It's got a vibe with it's open plan, polished concrete floor, exposed logs and tree poking through a big pitching tin roof. Since its a tin roof, it can be a bit more challenging with sound for live music, but still very achievable. A great meeting place, especially if food is to be involved.
SIZE - 12m x 12m dining area, no stage, rug on floor or various modular staging options available.
CAPACITY - 70 pax communal table seating, 100 pax theatre style. This is our largest undercover space, centrally positioned.
MAIN STAGE (Large Outdoor)
TYPE - Outdoor stage, clear span marquee cover raised on top of appropriate size stage deck. Since this stage is not a permanent structure, it can be manipulated to suit event requirements. We only set this stage up for capacities above 500 people.
STAGE SIZE - Approximately 10m x 9m clear span cover raised on top of a steel scaffold stage deck, height and rigging set to requirement.
CAPACITY - this stage is currently our largest onsite, positioned to utilise maximum venue attendance of up to 2700 people.
PA - For this outdoor stage, a larger production rig would need to be brought in, so this will add an extra cost towards production.
Dashville is a very relaxing place to host events both large & small.
Based on the sustainable growth of 15 years worth of Dashville run events, not only do we have a great community of followers and attendees, but there's also lots of facilities and equipment at the site. Some of the things we have onsite include:
- Numerous shower and toilet blocks.
- Liquor licensed areas
- Sophisticated waste management scheme
- Single phase mains power and 3 phase generators
- Restaurant and bars
- Site wide lighting
- 22ft wide x 5ft high skateboard ramp.
- Range of machinery inc. forklifts, excavators and telescopic handlers.
- 22 seat tour bus and a 10 seat commuter bus.
- Range of musical backline equipment
- 200m modular, moveable temporary fencing
- Secure dry storage
- Private spaces
- Range of camping and bedding equipment
These things make hosting a camping event and the load in/out work a fair bit easier.
The site is all natural clean flat bush land, with well draining sandy loam soil. It can handle heavy rain followed by traffic, without turning to mud/slush.
Dashville is run by people who can't stress how important pro sound and audio are to an artists performance. We work with professional sound and audio operators for all our events large or small. We have a range of in-house backline equipment. We have audio equipment for the smaller stages, and work closely with external operators to carry out the equipment and skills required for the larger staging, depending on the artist specs required.
Here are some of the results of our events, where we provide a package of both multi track recording and multi cam visuals to capture performances at Dashville.
In between our own events, Dashville often hosts corporate events, social clubs, birthday parties and occasionally weddings.
The first step is to send us an expression of interest via email. Please list as much information as possible so we can ensure we'll be able to host your function.
Our busiest period is in the warmer months between September and May.
Also keep in mind Dashville holds a few music festivals and other events, so to avoid disappointment, check out when our listed events are held and hopefully you can work your dates around ours.
We excel at providing a flexible venue and supremely tailored event experience.
For all venue specific information, feel free to speak with venue manager and Dashville director Matt Johnston.
We look forward to hearing from you.
